Both technologies fall under the OLED umbrella, but they serve very different purposes.
PMOLED (Passive Matrix OLED):
• Simpler architecture (no transistor-per-pixel)
• Lower cost, easier production
• Best for small, low-resolution screens
• Wearables, indicators, compact devices
AMOLED (Active Matrix OLED):
• Each pixel driven by its own transistor
• Higher refresh rates & resolution
• Ideal for smartphones, tablets, TVs, high-end UIs
• Energy efficient, fast response
In short:
PMOLED = simple, compact, efficient.
AMOLED = high-performance, visually rich.
