What is a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)?

A VNA is a precision instrument used to measure the electrical properties of antennas, such as impedance. These measurements allow antennas to be fine-tuned for optimal performance within their designated frequency bands – reducing power loss and improving efficiency.

Antenna Forward Loss , Return Loss and Impedance can all be used to determine the Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) which tells you something about the antenna efficiency at a certain frequency.
For single band applications (like Wi-Fi 2.4, LoRa , Zigbee, etc.) the general target for a good-performing antenna is the VSWR 2.0 mark (meaning only 11.1% of the energy used for transmission is lost).
For multi band applications like Cellular, the aim is to get all bands within the VSWR 3.0 mark. This is because VSWR 2.0 for all the Cellular bands is very hard to get with just 1 antenna.
